PRIVACY
Discreet delivery starts before checkout
“Plain packaging” answers only one privacy question. A genuinely discreet order also depends on the sender label, the bank-statement wording, tracking notifications, customs documents and the return process.
Remember. Delivery conditions change by warehouse, carrier, product and destination. Verify the merchant's current information for your country before paying.

1. Check the outside packaging
Look for a direct statement that the parcel uses neutral exterior packaging without product names or explicit branding. A product photo on the store does not prove how the shipping box will look. If this is not explained, ask support in writing and keep the answer.
2. Identify the sender name
The return label may show a fulfilment company, logistics warehouse or legal business name rather than the storefront brand. Find out whether that name is neutral and whether the carrier app will display additional information.
3. Ask about the payment descriptor
The wording on a bank or card statement can differ from the website name. Before checkout, search the merchant's FAQ or contact support for the exact billing descriptor. Digital wallets may show both the payment processor and the merchant.
4. Review tracking and notifications
Tracking is useful for privacy because it reduces the chance of an unattended parcel. Check which carrier is used, whether delivery alerts are optional, and whether the service offers a pickup point, a safe-place instruction or a signature. Do not treat a delivery estimate as a guarantee.
5. Consider customs and international routing
An order shipped across a border can involve a customs description, taxes, duties or inspection. The merchant should identify the dispatch country and explain whether duties are prepaid. If a local warehouse is advertised, verify that your chosen product and variation really ships from it. This matters most if you live in a different country from the merchant, for example when ordering from the EU to the United Kingdom.
6. Read the return process before breaking a seal
Hygiene products may be excluded from change-of-mind returns after a seal is opened, while faulty goods can follow different legal rules. Check the return window, the required condition, the return country, the postage cost and the procedure for damaged or incorrect items. Photograph shipping damage before discarding the packaging.
7. Protect your own digital privacy
- Use a private email address only you can access.
- Review notification previews on shared phones or computers.
- Do not save passwords or payment details on a shared device.
- Check whether the merchant offers guest checkout.
- Read the merchant's privacy and cookie information.
- Use a secure connection and avoid paying on public Wi-Fi.
Connected products add a further layer: if a product pairs with a phone app, read what the app collects before installing it. Our feature-comparison guide explains what to look for.
Questions to ask customer support
- What exact name appears on the parcel and the return label?
- What exact descriptor appears on the card statement?
- Which country and warehouse will this variation ship from?
- Which carrier is used, and is pickup-point delivery available?
- Will customs documentation identify the product category?
- Where are returns sent, and who pays return postage?
Red flags
Pause before ordering if a store provides no contact method, hides the dispatch country, promises an impossible delivery time, relies only on a countdown timer to create urgency, or contradicts itself about returns. A discount does not compensate for missing privacy information.

Frequently asked questions
Does “discreet packaging” guarantee full privacy?
No. Packaging is only one part. The sender name, bank-statement wording, tracking messages and return label can all reveal more than the box does, so check each one with the merchant.
Can the bank statement show what I bought?
It depends on the merchant and payment provider. The descriptor often shows a company or processor name rather than a product, but you should ask the merchant for the exact wording before paying.
What if the parcel arrives damaged?
Photograph the packaging and the product before discarding anything, then contact the merchant promptly with the order number and photographs.
